Logan ratcheted up its level of play in the third set of each of its matches at the 3A tourney. Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, they were still sent packing without winning a set.
Logan fell to Region 12 champ North Sanpete (25-17, 25-12, 25-22) in the first round, and then was ousted by Region 9 No. 3 seed Pine View (25-10, 25-18, 25-17) in an elimination match.
âWeâve been working all season to try and get a faster start, but one thing I can accredit to (my players) is that they always do try to battle it out right at the end and try to (fight) back into (the match),â Logan coach Jenn Ioane said. âAnd I think those seniors really felt that, âHey, this is our last shot, this is it,â and so they pushed hard there right at the end. We just needed a little more time, maybe a few extra points and we would have been right there.â
Libero Olivia Sanchez led the Grizzlies, Region 11âs fourth-place squad, with six digs against North Sanpete. Sharron Wallace chipped in with five digs and three aces.
Wallace also served up three aces against Pine View and added a team-high 10 digs.
Sanchez and Wallace were two of nine seniors who played their final match for Logan. The others were Sylvia Otrusinik, Jordan Olsen, Kjerstie Yeates, Makayla Dahl, Avery Henderson, Maya Dewey and Jordan Maxwell.
Six of those 12th-graders were on the court together at the conclusion of the Pine View match.
âI think they were happy to finish their high school careers together,â Ioane said. âI mean, obviously we wish it would have turned out differently, but weâre looking forward to next year, next season and what we can do then.â
